nightscapes
My father really encouraged my love for the stars when I was little. The mystery, the wonder, and how the night sky can make you feel so small all make me feel at peace. It’s also the hardest to photograph because it really tests both my skills and my equipment, which adds a lot of excitement to my technical and mechanical side.
I love watching the stars and taking pictures of them, but adding landscapes makes it even better. It gives you a sense of scale and awe. As I mentioned on the About page, I like to be as accurate as possible in my art, but there’s still a lot of creativity involved. For example, our eyes can’t see the colors of the stars, especially the nebula like this, but you can see the textures in really dark light. You can capture the colors in the camera, and I make sure to keep them as true as possible. Star trails are more artistic, and they’re made by combining clean foregrounds with many long exposures of the stars, usually several hundred.
